Frequently Asked Questions
Q: If I move one spot over from my original parking space, will I be ticketed?
A: Community members are required to move two (2) blocks away from their original parking space. Chain parking is when someone parks within the same progressive parking fine area (radius from original parking space) and is considered unlawful (8.14.140), which can result in a fine.
Q: What if someone wipes off the chalk from their tire?
A: EPD Code Enforcement can use electronic marking if an individual is suspected of removing the chalk marking on his/her vehicle tire. Additional charges may be applied in addition to the original parking infraction for chalk removal.
Q: Does EPD Code Enforcement have a quota of tickets to issue each day?
A: No. Neither EPD Code Enforcement nor EPD Patrol Officers have a quota to fill.
Q: What happens if I do not pay my parking tickets?
A: The City of Ellensburg can submit past due parking tickets for collections.
Q: Does EPD Code Enforcement monitor parking on a regular schedule?

RPZ Parking
The City of Ellensburg has established Residential Parking Zones or RPZ in the central area of town. The RPZ protects street parking for those who live and work in the zone. If you are a resident, service provider or business located in the RPZ, you may apply for a permit. The permit is placed in your vehicle, and that vehicle is allowed to be parked in the RPZ.
Individuals may apply for a Residential Parking Permit. Each unit in the RPZ is allowed one permit for each vehicle owned, plus two additional permits for visitors. If you live contiguous to the RPZ you may request one RPZ permit for your vehicle. If you live in the RPZ and are expecting guests, you can request a temporary guest permit.
Service providers and businesses located in the RPZ may request parking permits, too. Service providers may request up to 2 permits, and businesses 2 permits, plus an additional up to 2 for employees.

To apply for a permit, stop by our customer service counter on the first floor of City Hall (501 N. Anderson) or make application online
For contiguous, three day temporary guest, service provider and business, apply for a Miscellaneous Parking Zone permit.
