CITY OF ELLENSBURG COMPLETE STREETS

Pfenning Road Shared Use Path
Now a popular destination with views of hills and horses, this shared use path offers strollers, runners, and cyclists a 12' wide paved route buffered by a full height curb and gutter and solar-powered speed checker. Elementary, Middle and High School students use the trail to safely travel.

University Way Transit Shelter with Art Glass

Alder Street Shared Use Path
This corridor is an 8' wide brushed concrete sidewalk with Shared Use Path signage. It provides a way to circumvent campus with a safer mode of travel for citizens, CWU students, educators, and staff.

Pearl Street Crosswalk
Well-defined brick paver sidewalks are the cornerstone of Ellensburg's downtown district. Pedestrians are further protected by highly visible signage and curb bulb-outs that slow the speed of traffic.

Transit Stop Bench
Benches at transit stops and heavily used walkways invite pedestrians and riders to rest. Bike racks provide security for cyclists.

Brick Road Sidewalk and Tree-Lined Rock Swales
New sidewalks bridge pedestrian gaps and connect with existing walks, providing safe travel on Brick Road. Transformed, it is now a peaceful dog walking spot that offers views of the hills and McElroy Park. Its decorative tree and rock-lined swales add beauty and allow for efficient storm water drainage.

A rapid flashing beacon with highly visible pedestrian crossing signage slows high speed traffic at Pfenning Road.

What are "Complete Streets?"
"Complete Streets" - the City of Ellensburg's purposeful implementation of safe use and mobility for all users throughout our community. Complete Streets allow all people to safely access their destination by foot, bicycle, transit, or other preferred modes of transportation. The City of Ellensburg is committed to our Complete Streets Policy and the process of planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining streets that provide safety over speed for all users.
Complete Streets incorporate the following features:
- Sidewalks
- Bicycle lanes or wide, paved shoulders
- Shared use paths
- Transit turnouts
- Safe and accessible transit stops
- Frequent and safe pedestrian crossings, including median islands
- Comfortable and accessible public transportation stops
- Accessible pedestrian signals
- Curb bulb-outs
- Narrow lanes of travel
- Roundabouts
