The Reecer Creek Flood Plain Restoration Project began in approximately 2010 and is the culmination of several projects layered together to mitigate flooding impacts to people while protecting the environment. Included in the project was the construction of two levees which extend from Interstate 90 to University Way, reducing the flooding risk in West Ellensburg.
This critical investment strengthens flood protection, supports continued growth in our industrial zone, and expands community access to conservation education and new walking trails. This long-term project was a collaboration between the City of Ellensburg, the Yakama Nation, the Washington State Department of Ecology, the Kittitas County Flood Control Zone District, Aspect Consulting, Hurst Construction, and the residents of Ellensburg.
Thank you, to the residents of Ellensburg and all the partners on this incredible project.
