Meeting To Review Historic District Property Survey Results
Tuesday, September 13, 2022
The City of Ellensburg Community Development Department will be sharing the results of the historic district property survey that took place earlier this year at an upcoming public meeting. Staff will present the results of the Reconnaissance level survey of the First Railroad Addition National Register and Local Landmarks Districts.
The public meeting will be Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at 5:45 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 501 N. Anderson St, Ellensburg WA 98926 or via Zoom. For remote attendance, contact City staff, hendersons@ci.ellensburg.wa.us, no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 13. An email link, text link, or phone number will be provided which will allow for electronic participation in the public hearing.
Survey work was conducted through spring and summer of 2022 and included exterior documentation of each structure within both district boundaries, and historical and contextual research regarding the development of the district. The original nomination forms for these districts were written in 1987, and do not include the comprehensive level of analysis found in today’s nominations. There are also several structures within the districts that are now more than 50 years old, and require their own analysis and determination of eligibility. At the meeting, staff will present the information and findings from the survey, including discussion of next steps toward updating the current historic district nominations, and the possibility of expanding the boundary of the National Register District to match the Local Landmarks District boundary.
