  • Function/Duties
    The Ellensburg Police Department is authorized for 29 commissioned police officers, 2 code enforcement officers, 5 animal control employees, and a support staff of 5 people. The rank structure includes a Chief, 2 Captains, 1 Detective Sergeant, 2 Detectives, 2 Anti-Crime Detectives, 4 Sergeants, 4 Corporals, and 13 Officers. Those positions include 1 K-9 Team and a School Resource Officer.

    Community Oriented Policing is practiced department wide in a variety of ways such as: Foot Patrol, Bicycle Patrol, Registered Sex Offender Monitoring, Crime Prevention Programs, Annual Citizens and Youth Academies, and many public talks and demonstrations throughout the year.

    Other Specialty positions include: Field Training Officers, Firearm Range Instructors, Hostage Negotiators, Domestic Response Instructors, Traffic Investigators, Emergency Vehicle Driving Instructor, and a K-9 Program.

    • Police responded to 15,159 incidents during the year 2008 and made 1,421 adult arrests and 270 juvenile arrests.
    • The total number of vehicle prowls responded to during the year 2008 was 255.
    • The Ellensburg Police Department investigated 110 driving while under the influence cases.
    • The total number of calls generated by noise complaints was 816.
